Substance Alchemist - Intro - Dirty Wood Floor

Howdy Guys! I have been messing around with all the "latest and greatest" when it comes to creating textures. The two most notable newcomers to the stage are Quixel Mixer and Substance Alchemist. So far I am loving both. They are quite similar on the surface, but when you start to use them in a production setting their differences start to show. I really love the fact that Mixer is more of a texture painter. You have control over paint layers and masks by painting, where as Alchemist does not yet include a painter as far as I have seen. I do hope that they add one though and leverage more of the concepts found in Substance Painter as that would really create a powerful texture creation application for tiling textures.

I cant really say just yet which rapid texture creation application is better. They both have their pluses and minuses. So, I am currently focusing on using Alchemist in my production pipelines, as I like the way I can create my own filters and utilize Substance Source. So I will keep posting my thoughts about these tools as I find new things out.

In the meantime, I created a FREE mini course on how to create a Dirty wood floor texture, completely from scratch, with Substance Alchemist. It was a fun one to start with but covers the entire process. I really like what they have done with Alchemist and look forward to future updates!
