Procedural Props - Chinese Knife

Updated: Jan 12, 2020

Throughout this mini course we walk through the process of creating a basic prop for a game. Our goal during the creation of the Chinese knife is to make it as procedural as possible. So we look at ways to leverage the power of Houdini to help us with this. By the end of the modeling process we will have set up a complete procedural game prop that generates the low and high res models ready fro Substance Painter.

Howdy Guys! I want to start off by saying how much I really appreciate the support from the community on Discord, Patreon and YouTube! I am really humbled with all of your comments, questions, and praise! Nothing makes me more excited than knowing that Proceduralism is exciting for everyone and that we all want to learn more about how to create more automated ways of creating content! That is music to my ears! :-)

So, here's the latest mini-course! This time around I had a request by one of the discord members who wanted to see how I would go about making a Chinese knife model, completely procedurally. So I accepted the challenge and created this mini Course! It is now available to all Indie-Pixel Patrons, and will soon be available on Flipped Normals and Udemy.

With our models ready, we walk through the process of texturing the Chinese Knife using the procedural power of Substance Painter. We talk about Baking, Setting up our layers, working with Smart Materials, and how to use Stencils. Once completed we then export everything out and import it into Unity 2019.3. We then take a little bit and get a nice scene set up such that the final render is a one to one match of what we saw in Substance Painter.

In all, this course is great for those wanting to get more insight into the complete procedural prop pipeline using Houdini 18, Substance Painter 2019, and Unity 2019. Check it out now on the Indie-Pixel Patreon Page!
